Open Monument Day in Flanders 2027

On the second Sunday of September, monuments across Flanders open their doors, many of which are otherwise closed or hard to visit. Coastal towns take part too, such as Knokke-Heist and Blankenberge. Admission is free.

What can you expect on Open Monumentendag?

  • Hundreds of places: 913 locations took part in 2026.
  • A theme every year: In 2026 it was In goede handen (In good hands), about the owners, craftspeople and volunteers who look after heritage.
  • On the coast: In 2026 you could visit, among others, the Kalfmolen windmill and the historic organ of the Sint-Margaretakerk in Knokke-Heist, and the Belle Epoque Centrum and De Scute in Blankenberge.
